The description on the Library of Congress web page explains that
it shows “various Civil War fortifications (battle sites noted by crossed swords) and smoke over Manassas (Bull Run) vicinity. Oriented with north to the right…Includes distance lists in lower margin. LC copy brittle, torn at fold-line, taped.”
The cartographer John Bachmann created maps that when placed next to this one present a composite view of the East Coast from Virginia to Florida.
