“Death of Colored Veteran
Dennis P.[sic] Peebles, perhaps the only colored resident of this county and a familiar visitor to this city, passed away at his home in the town of Plover early Monday morning, death being due to old age. Mr. Peebles, who was a veteran of the Civil war, was born in Vermont 84 years ago and has lived on his farm in the town of Plover for many years. Those who knew him have nothing but words of praise as to his character. Mr. Peebles is survived by two daughters, who live in St. Paul. They are expected to attend the funeral, which will be held Thursday afternoon from the residence.”
